NEA Representative Assembly

The NEA Representative Assembly is held in the summer; see www.nea.org/ra for current information. The following is information from last year's event. This page will be updated soon.

Delegate information

The NEA Representative Assembly will be June 30-July 5, 2012, in Washington, D.C. The first Texas Caucus meeting will be on June 30, 2012. The NEA annual meeting website (www.nea.org/ra) provides the most up to date information about the RA and related events.

Texas Information Guide

TSTA has prepared a Delegate Information Guide  to answer basic questions Texas delegates may have.

Texas Caucus Meetings

All Texas Caucus meetings will be at the Crystal Gateway Marriott. There will be a New Delegates Orientation at 1:00 p.m. on June 30, 2012. The first Texas Caucus meeting will follow immediately at 1:30 p.m. The remaining Texas Caucus meetings will be held 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. each day of the RA (July 2-5, 2012).

Housing Deadline – May 18

The official Texas delegation hotel is the Crystal Gateway Marriott (1700 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Arlington, VA). The  lodging RSVP and first night deposit are due to TSTA by May 18, 2012. Late requests are subject to room availability at the hotel or an overflow property. Please contact Carol McCord in the TSTA Center for Executive and Governance if you need assistance with a room reservation.  The RSVP form can be found on page 15 of the Spring Advocate.

NEA has designated the Crystal Gateway Marriott as a metro-only hotel, so bus service will not be provided between the hotel and convention center.  Instead, delegates will be given a 7-day metro pass to use for their transportation needs. The hotel connects by tunnel to the metro rail system. Physically challenged delegates should pre-register with NEA in order to be eligible for alternative transportation.

Physically Challenged Delegates (Deadline to request services is June 1)

The deadline to request physically challenged services at the RA is June 1, 2012.  For more information about who qualifies as physically challenged, arranging special transportation, and how to rent wheelchairs, please visit the NEA website at: www.nea.org/grants/51494.htm

Child Care Services

Child care services will be offered during the NEA Annual Meeting (June 30-July 5). Spaces are limited, so early registration is suggested. For more information and access to the registration forms, please visit the NEA website at: www.nea.org/grants/51607.htm.  NEA will wait until mid-June to determine whether or not there is enough interest to provide child care during certain pre-convention activities.

Pre-Registration of Family and Guests

Delegates may register their guests at the RA starting on June 30. A kiosk with several computers will be available for folks to type in their name and the sponsor’s name and state affiliate. The sponsor picks up the badge(s) at the Non-delegate counters a few feet away. NEA will verify the sponsor’s status via their official badge and/or ID.

Delegates may be interested in several other events occurring during the pre-convention and RA dates.

After providing your email address, you will receive an invitation to join the site.

NEA Fund for Children

RA delegates can create an online page to collect contributions that are credited to the RA delegate (to help achieve your recommended minimum contribution to the Children’s Fund).

  1. Create your personal page:
    Visit go.NEAFund.org
  2. Click on “Create Your Fundraising Page.”
  3. Fill in the required information and click the “Create My Page” button.
  4. You’ll receive an email from go.NEAFund.org. When you get the email, click on “Confirm My Registration” and your page will be activated.
Share your page:   Once your page is activated, you can copy and paste the link into an email and send it to others or select the custom-built tool to personalize a message to send to others who then may donate via your personal fundraising page.
