TSTA and NEA endorse Colin Allred for Senate
The Texas State Teachers Association and its national affiliate, the National Education Association, have endorsed Democratic nominee Colin Allred over incumbent Ted Cruz in the U.
The TSTA House of Delegates is TSTA’s highest decision-making body and serves a vital role in the governance of the association. Delegates are elected as representatives to the HoD, and may establish goals for TSTA, amend its bylaws, and act on recommendations from the TSTA officers, board, or committees.
It’s time to recognize teachers for what they are: the pipeline builders for Texas’ economy. Texas teachers stand by their communities, educating our students to thrive in the 21st century. Isn’t it time for Texas to stand by them?

Many educators have their Social Security benefits reduced—or lose them entirely—due to the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). Help us ensure that educators get the Social Security benefits they’ve earned. Ask Congress to fully repeal both the GPO and WEP.

Austin ISD Board of Trustees held a virtual Q&A session to hear concerns from the community about a controversial order from the Texas Education Agency that would appoint a team of monitors over its special education department.
State Education Commissioner Mike Morath was flippant to the point of being disrespectful when he blamed school districts for the rising number of uncertified teachers entering the profession. Morath claimed that districts had given up on hiring certified teachers and had moved to “hiring people off the street.”
