TSTA has fought for safe school re-openings and we are fighting for equity, to correct the unfair distribution of resources and opportunities in our communities. Join us and help make us even stronger.

Happy Pride Month!

This session served as a reminder that our fight for equality is far from over. More than 30 anti-LGBTQ bills were filed, including 13 attacks on our transgender youth. Let us continue to stand together against discrimination and inequality.

Celebrate Juneteenth!

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. It has its roots in the long-awaited moment of emancipation in Texas, where more than 250,000 enslaved black people received news on June 19, 1865 — more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation — that they were free.

June is Immigration Heritage Month

Educators and immigration activists are coming together to celebrate our immigrant community and petition for permanent protections and pathways to citizenship for the undocumented immigrants, and their families, who contribute to this country in myriad ways.

TSTA members stopped the swap and our voices have been heard loud and clear! Texas school districts may now apply to receive their share of $11.2B appropriated for public ed under the American Rescue Plan or ESSER III Fund. This is a huge victory for TSTA and while we celebrate this win, we know that the fight continues! Let’s keep the pressure up to ensure ALL the federal stimulus funds go to our Texas students!

87th Texas Legislature

Thank you for staying informed and alert this session. Stay tuned for more information about when the governor is likely to call the special session for redistricting, and what other priorities are likely to be tacked on.

Racial and social justice

The Texas State Teachers Association believes that the path to racial and social justice lies with education. We have compiled resources you can use that amplify and celebrate racial and social equity in our schools, meaningful allyship, and restorative justice. Also, join us for NEA's Season of Justice with events all summer long.

Killeen Educators Association wins pay raise – and more – for all district employees

After KEA members, armed with facts, made a convincing presentation for higher compensation, the Killeen ISD school board this week approved a 3 and a half percent raise for all employees based on their individual salaries, not the midpoint of all salaries.

HB3979 was enacted to whitewash racism, not address critical race theory

Critical race theory is not the reason the legislative majority enacted HB3979, the new anti-education law, despite what Gov. Greg Abbott and the law’s other supporters claim. The law’s real purpose is broader and more sinister.
