AP says Chet Edwards loses

U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards of Waco, a Democrat in a Republican district, finally has lost to a Republican challenger, but it took a Republican tidal wave and who knows how much in outside, special interest money to do him in. The Associated Press says he won’t be able to overcome a strong, early lead from challenger Bill Flores.

Edwards, you may recall, even voted against President Obama’s health care reform bill to try to keep his Republican constituents happy. He did, however, join his Democratic colleagues in voting for the education jobs bill that all the Republicans in the House opposed and Flores spoke out against. Texas teachers are still waiting for their $830 million share of that money, which Gov. Perry also opposes, but that’s another story.

  • Of course, when has Rick Perry done anything to support public educators in Texas?

Chet Edwards has long been a voice for moderate, common sense government in the US House. His defeat is a defeat for such government, that which is necessary for the best in the lives of people, from both liberal and conservative perspectives.
