House Public Ed approves Senate bills

The House Public Education Committee approved the following bills on Monday: 

  • SB 35 by Judith Zaffirini, relating to transition and employment services for public school students enrolled in special education programs starting at age 14. 
  • SB 224 by Jane Nelson, relating to a program to recognize public schools with successful student health and fitness programs. 
  • SB 226 by Jane Nelson, relating to reporting individual student performance on a physical fitness assessment instrument to the Texas Education Agency. 
  • SB 419 by Royce West, relating to prohibiting state funding to public junior colleges for physical education courses offered for joint high school and junior college credit. 
  • SB 738 by Florence Shapiro, relating to alternative methods of operating public schools. 
  • SB 1094 by Jose Rodriguez, relating to the availability of online testing for high school equivalency examinations. 
  • SB 1410 by Robert Duncan, relating to reporting student enrollment in tech-prep programs and evaluating tech-prep consortia. 
  • SB 1484 by Florence Shapiro, relating to authorizing open-enrollment charter schools to be awarded academic distinction designations. 
  • SB 1543 by Jeff Wentworth, relating to the authority of independent school districts to invest in corporate bonds. 
  • SB 1619 by Robert Duncan, relating to the calculation of average daily attendance for a public school student participating in the college credit program. 
  • SB 1872 by Leticia Van de Putte, relating to revision of open-enrollment charter school charters to add charter schools under certain circumstances.
