May 4-8, is Teacher Appreciation Week; here are some ways to honor yourselves and your colleagues

Tuesday, May 5, is National Teacher Day, a day that the NEA Foundation has set aside as a special day of giving for students and educators across the country. Please consider a charitable contribution to help provide funding for things like educator innovation, professional development, STEM education, global learning and more.

On Wednesday, May 6, educators are urged to wear #REDforED to honor yourselves and colleagues who, even during these difficult times, are still fighting for school funding, professional pay and better learning conditions for all students. Take a photo of yourself and share it on social media that day.

Also, there still is time to enter a teacher’s name for a drawing for prizes that will be awarded by Raise Your Hand Texas. This is part of the #TeachersCan campaign in which TSTA is partnering. Educators and parents are urged to visit TeachersCan.org anytime through this Sunday, May 3, to nominate teachers who are going above and beyond for their students and their communities. Winning teachers whose names are drawn will be awarded prizes daily throughout next week.

Prizes will include free groceries for a year from H-E-B, gas cards from Valero, a back-to-school bash for a winning teacher’s whole school from Whataburger and gift cards from Texas companies. Special online events for teachers also will be offered.

Here are more suggestions and information from NEA for celebrating educators during the week.
