Senate passes personal financial literacy bill

Today, the Senate gave final passage to House Bill 34 by Rep. Branch. HB 34 provides for personal financial literacy, including adding instruction in methods of paying for college and other postsecondary education and training. The Senate adopted an amendment by Sen. West that requires the same instruction in certain dual credit courses.

The Social Security Fairness Act, which fully repeals GPO/WEP, has strong bipartisan support in both chambers. This week, the House Ways and Means Committee is holding a hearing on the issue.
