Battling for Congress

Democratic members of Congress from Texas who were trailing Republican challengers in still relatively early returns were Chet Edwards of Waco, Ciro Rodriguez of San Antonio and Solomon Ortiz of Corpus Christi. Edwards had the largest margin to make up against Bill Flores in what has been the most Republican district in the U.S. House represented by a Democrat.

In Austin, veteran Democrat Lloyd Doggett had an early lead of a few percentage points, which is probably closer than a lot of people would have predicted.
